The Mac mini and Mac Studio occupy two distinct points in Apple’s lineup of desktops, but lately, they’ve had something in common: They’re popular for local AI inference and software development thanks to the advantages of their unified memory architecture and the fast CPUs and GPUs on their systems-on-a-chip.
Ahead of its expected September keynote, Apple announced two new Mac upgrades—and issued some quiet updates on the side.
Perhaps it is appropriate that the last few days of Tim Cook’s leadership at Apple is marked by the return of Mac manufacturing to America in the form of the new Mac mini, which the company has promised it will assemble in the US this year. The company on Tuesday also introduced new Mac Studio models.
